Door Painting + Estate-Sale Trolling

I hope you had a marvelous weekend! Oklahoma City was in all its glory this weekend, with near-perfect temperatures and sunny skies. Sun, we missed you these past few weeks. Do stick around awhile longer; I have a new swimsuit to parade skulk dance around in!

On Sunday afternoon, we met Mom & Dad after church for lunch and then took a drive through lovely historic downtown neighborhoods. We ended up in Crown Heights and fell upon an estate sale of a really cool house that could have excellent potential (for somebody — not us!). Really, I get kinda excited when I see a cool old house. It’s not that I want to live there, necessarily, but I can just imagine all the fun things that could be done with it. This house needed new carpet and/or other flooring and definitely some paint, but it could be so fun, so pretty. The bedrooms upstairs were big and spacious, and the original tile work was in perfect condition. It had all the right elements for charm.

Anyway, like I said, it was an estate sale, and since it was the last day, everything was 50% off. I was thinking it was going to be a bust until I hit the last room. Voila! A lovely long, low coffee table, for only $65. But wait! It was 50% off of that, so only $32.50. I couldn’t really pass that up, so I sent Simon in to look at it, and he approved. It’s now happily in our living room. (see above)

Tomorrow I’ll begin painting our master bedroom. Finally!! I’m really excited to get started. I taped off the entire room on Saturday, eliminating most of the prepwork that I really hate doing. Sunday was drop-cloth & furniture moving day. I imagine tonight night we’ll pretend like we’re guests and stay in the guest bedroom. Have you ever read Anne of Green Gables? Anne always wanted to stay in a guest bedroom because she thought it seemed so special and fancy. 🙂

Ok, so I’ve been ruminating on another little projet as well. I can’t remember which blog I first read it on. Maybe AnNicole’s Our Suburban Cottage? Somewhere, somebody thought it would be fun and cottage-y to paint the house numbers on the front door and I really liked the look of it. I presented this idea to Simon this weekend, and then I did some Photoshop mockups. Take a look at these and see if any ring your bell.

Door #1: Neutra Slab Serif with double-underline accents.

Door #2: MrsEaves with italic “no.”

Door #3: Neutra & Neutra Slab Serif

Door #4: Archer (in one of its various incarnations). I don’t actually own this font, but I think I could recreate it pretty closely.

Ok, would you please vote for which one you prefer? I’m interested in some other opinions.

Thank you so much, blog friends! How was your weekend? Did you do anything fun?
